Ridgeview Park Integrated School is a public educational institution located in Barangay 97, Cabalawan, Tacloban City, Philippines. The school serves as a vital educational facility for families relocated to the northern areas of Tacloban City following the devastation of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in 2013.

Location and Basic Information

Ridge View Park Subdivison

The school is situated in the Ridge View Park resettlement site in Cabalawan, one of several housing projects established in northern Tacloban City to relocate families from coastal danger zones affected by the typhoon. Ridgeview Park Integrated School operates under the Department of Education (DepEd) Region VIII, Schools Division Office of Tacloban City, specifically under District Learning Center II.

School Identification Number: 500489

Address: Barangay 97, Cabalawan, Tacloban City

Historical Background:

Ridgeview Park Integrated School emerged from the reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts following Super Typhoon Yolanda, which struck the Philippines on November 8, 2013. The typhoon caused catastrophic damage throughout Leyte, with Tacloban City bearing the brunt of the disaster. As part of the government's resettlement program, approximately 14,000 families identified as living in coastal "Danger Zones" were relocated to newly developed sites in northern Tacloban, including the Ridge View Park housing project.

The school initially operated under challenging conditions with makeshift classrooms constructed from coconut lumber, plywood, and corrugated iron sheets. In June 2019, the Department of Education reported maintaining 35 makeshift rooms at Ridgeview Park Integrated School. School officials, including then-principal Edever Zanoria, worked to improve these temporary structures by installing electric fans, ceilings, and concrete floors with assistance from parents and stakeholders.

Infrastructure Development

The transition from temporary to permanent facilities has been a gradual process. In October 2016, the national government downloaded PHP 66 million to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the construction of permanent school buildings. This funding was allocated for a three-storey building designed to house 45 classrooms at the Ridge View Park Integrated School.

By 2018, construction projects were underway with a combined cost of PHP 118.37 million for three-storey buildings at the school. Recent documents from 2025 indicate ongoing construction work, including a one-storey building project and additional infrastructure improvements.

  • Early Registration Campaigns - Activities to encourage early enrollment of new students
  • Philippine Cultural Education Program (PCEP) participation

Challenges and Ongoing Development

As of 2019, the school continued to face infrastructure challenges, with students attending classes in improved but still temporary learning spaces while awaiting the completion of permanent buildings. The relocation site itself presented additional challenges for students and families, including:

  • Distance from original communities and livelihood sources
  • Limited public transportation services affecting student access
  • Adjustment difficulties for students moving to new school environments

The Department of Education recognized these challenges and prioritized the construction of permanent facilities. The city's education division requires 558 permanent classrooms with an estimated budget of PHP 768.93 million to adequately serve all relocated families in northern Tacloban sites.

Recognition and Network

Ridgeview Park Integrated School is officially recognized in the DepEd National Identification Dashboard, listed among the 60 schools in Tacloban City Division. The school has submitted its data and maintains "Submitted" status in the system, though as of October 2025, it had no projects specifically listed in the dashboard.

The school works in coordination with other integrated schools serving the northern resettlement areas, including Kapuso Village Integrated School, North Hill Arbours Integrated School, Guadalupe Heights Integrated School, and Greendale Residences Integrated School.

The school continues to receive support from various government agencies and programs, including downloads for program support, educational materials development, and infrastructure improvements.

Ridgeview Park Integrated School represents a significant component of Tacloban City's post-disaster recovery and educational infrastructure, serving a community that continues to rebuild and establish roots in their resettlement location more than a decade after Typhoon Yolanda.
